Style

Valda paints and draws in a soft realism with fine detail, and with attention to light’s reflections. “I have always been fascinated by the contrasts in the world around me of light and shadow, form and texture. But most of all, I marvel at the way sunlight plays on ordinary objects, transforming them to a reflection of the Creator. I strive to capture that Divine nature in my art.”

Subjects

Valda has explored many subjects from still life to architecturals. What draws her to a particular subject is the play of light and shadow, along with interesting shapes within and around the subject.

Pencil Portraits

Your favorite photos can be made into a treasured portrait. Valda draws detailed and realistic pencil portraits from photographs. Visit her website for more information or send her an email message.

Artistic Beginnings

In 1998 Valda began to fulfill her long-held desire to draw and paint, and spent the next five years studying art, focusing on drawing and watercolor. In 2003 she joined a local art association and in the Spring of 2004 entered her first juried show, winning an Award of Merit.

Since that time she has entered many juried art exhibitions in the Kansas City metro area and has won several awards.

She began teaching watercolor in her home studio in 2005 and has been the watercolor instructor for the Shawnee Civic Center in Shawnee, Kansas, since August 2007.
